Introduction
Fushigi Yuugi is the story of two friends, Yuuki Miaka and Hongo Yui, that were about to take the High School Entrance Exam. When they went to the National Library Miaka found an ancient book called Shi Jin Tenchi Sho and the two girls begin to read it, unknowing that at the same time they were casting a spell that would send them inside the book. The first page reads as follow:
"Herein contains the tale of a young lady and her quest to gather the seven Constellations of Suzaku together. And if you, the esteemed reader, should read to the story's end, the spell contained within this book shall bestow upon you the powers of the heroine, and grant your wish. For indeed the moment the page is turned, the story will become reality."
As they turn to the second page of the book, there is a sudden earthquake and they cover their heads. When it finally stops, they look up and find themselves on a barren place. While they are confused about their surroundings, two slave traders appear, and try to kidnap them. Miaka fought valiantly, but when it seemed that they were doomed a young guy, with and the Oni character in his forehead, saves them. But nothing in the world is free, and their hero requests a reward but after realizing the girls didn't have any money he leaves them. Suddenly, there earth shakes again and they are returned to the library.
Miaka returns home, but she can't stop thinking about what happened earlier and the boy who had rescued them. After an argument with her mother, Miaka runs out and back into the library. When she takes the Shi Jin Tenchi Sho and resumes reading, she sees that her earlier adventure is now written into the book and she finds herself transported into the world inside the book.
Miaka enters a city, which looks like Ancient China, were she finds Tamahome, the guy with the oni character, who promised her that he would help her out. The red light appears and Miaka began to disappear. She was about to return to the library but she holds on to Tamahome as she doesn't want to leave without saying goodbye. The teletransportation stops and she is again completely inside the book.
Tamahome promised her that he would help her go back home. The emperor who witnessed everything, requests that Miaka to become the Suzako no Miko to save the Konan Country. If she reunites the Suzaku Shichi Seishi, who have a character written somewhere on their body, she will receive three wishes and could go back home...
